At Wilderness Medical Systems we build premium medical first aid kits for those who want the very best. Everything in our kits is carefully selected to work, period. As part of our selection process, we field test components all over the world.
Kurt, our Director of Field Testing, spends time every year evaluating the items we put, or propose to put, into our medical first aid kits. In 2011, he spent an eventful year traveling to both Bolivia and the Cameroon. In Bolivia, he lived in the jungle and had a chance to field test insect repellents.
As a result of his experiences, we now recommend UltraThon Insect Repellent by 3M which we use exclusively (). Kurt used both the pump spray and the lotion with a sponge applicator. He would spray his clothes and any exposed skin (i.e. hands) every morning, but by midday and into the evening, found a reapplication of the repellent using the sponge applicator was necessary.
Our insect repellent is effective in any tropical location (Dominican Republic, Hawai’i, etc.) and is valued by those who live and work in these areas. In fact, Kurt had to leave all of the repellent he took to Bolivia for his hosts!
With the outbreak of West Nile Virus in the U.S., having this effective insect repellent on hand can be vital to the health of your family.
We currently carry the UltraThon in the pump spray which comes standard in the WMS Kilimanjaro Kit. The lotion with sponge applicator is a special order.
