No matter where. No matter what.
Don’t think it can happen to you? That’s what our friend, Harold, thought…
He and his wife, Daisy, saved for years to go to Central America to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. It was a red letter day when we all sent them off with high fives and congratulations all around. Little did we know that that would be the last time any of us would see Harold alive. While on vacation at a luxury resort, he suddenly came down with severe abdominal pain. He and Daisy did not know whom to call, did not speak Spanish and had a difficult time communicating to well-meaning staff what the problem was. Even a trip to the local medical facility yielded little in the way of bona fide treatment since the doctor only spoke halting English. As the day wore on and Harold’s symptoms increased, he finally was taken to the local hospital. After two days of agony, it was decided Harold needed emergency abdominal surgery. He made it through surgery, but within three days he had died of septic shock.
It was on a lazy Sunday afternoon that I got the phone call that broke my heart as I learned of Harold’s passing. If Harold had had our Complete Care Program, he and Daisy could have called a U.S. based physician who would have directed his care in Spanish directly to the local doctors. Had he needed surgery, he could have been airlifted to a hospital with U.S.-level care. It is our hope and our mission to offer the equipment and services to prevent what happened to Harold from happening to you. Let us help make the difference for you.
