Simple First Aid Instructions
for the Panicked Layman

Wilderness First Aid Guide

Our Wilderness Medical Systems first aid kits are comprehensive, but they aren’t much good if you don’t know how to use what’s in them. Even if you’ve had first aid training (maybe years ago), it’s reassuring to have instructions for anything that you don’t know or have forgotten how to treat in the wilderness.

4″ x 6″ x 1/4″ 4 oz. $26.50 buy-now-button

This component of our Wilderness Medical Systems kits deals with that. Wilderness Medical Systems Flashcards™ are first aid instructions written for the panicked person by our founder, Dr. Gilbert Preston, M.D. They are designed to provide a highly stressed layperson with a rapid reference, and clear instructions on the safe and effective care of the most common wilderness medical emergencies.

The waterproof, tear-resistant feature of these Flashcards makes them useful in all extremes of weather and location. It is unfortunate, but true, that most injuries happen when weather is foul and treatment often occurs in the rain or snow, in dusty, dirty conditions….not to mention the body fluids…well, you get the idea.

Who would have guessed such a simple little book could make all the difference?

Wilderness Field Guide FAQ’s

Why should I have first aid instructions?

  • For the things you don’t know or may have forgotten how to treat.
  • For those who have no first aid training.
  • For reassurance during an emergency.

What is unique about these first aid instructions?

  • They are printed on waterproof paper.
  • They are written for the layperson in non-medical language.
  • They have a quick “Flash Index” on the back, making it easy to get to the instructions you need fast.
  • They are designed to be used with any kind of first aid kit.

Why are they printed on waterproof, tear-resistant paper?

  • Because things seem to happen when it’s raining or snowing or downright nasty……

Who wrote these first aid instructions?

  • Our founder, Dr. Gilbert Preston, M.D., wrote the Falcon Guides book on wilderness first aid.
  • Dr. Preston has backpacked, fished and trekked from the Canyonlands of the American southwest to the mountains of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Utah.
  • Dr. Preston is a member of the Wilderness Medical Society and the Montana Medical Society.

“One Necessary Caveat:”

These instructions are not meant to take the place of adequate wilderness first-aid and CPR training (which we highly recommend due to changing protocols) and trained wilderness medical personnel. They are for use as a guide when out of reach of professional medical care.

Why buy from Wilderness Medical Systems

Professional Grade Supplies and Refillability

All Wilderness Medical Systems kits are packed with high quality, field-tested supplies that can be refilled. Cheap supplies are a detriment. Our refill service makes it easy to keep your kit up-to-date.

What’s The Deal With Organization?

It doesn’t matter what you have in your medical kit. If you can’t find it quickly, you might as well not have it. This is why we are manic about organization! The contents of our kits are organized into clear modules with high visibility labeling and individual content cards.

Room For Personal Medications

If you travel a long way from home you need to take personal prescription medications with you. Certain situations require more than just what can be found in a standard kit. The DASH, TSAVO, PAMIR, ALTAI, and KILIMANJARO kits have been designed to carry your personal meds so everything’s in one bag.

  • Professional-grade supplies
  • Highly organized content system
  • Room for personal medications

Testimonials

I have been a user of Wilderness Medical kits for several years. My Wilderness Medical kit has traveled the world with me from kayaking the high Arctic, crossing the Patagonian Ice Cap, and trekking through the Himalayas. After a lot of research including consulting with physicians, I came to the conclusion that the Wilderness Medical kits were far and away the most comprehensive and practical medical kits commercially available.
